Robert Johnson – "Me And The Devil Blues"

This was the last song Johnson released during his lifetime. One source of the legend about his selling his soul to the devil so he could play the blues... Here's a bit on it on Alibi

Inspector Ras – "Eyes Of The Beholder"

This is a version of a Lucky Dube song. I played it for the first time last week at my semi-successful Jawfest gig. Ag, it wasn't so bad. There was a girl at the front who liked my Pestroy rhyme, and the people seemed to listen to some of the words. At one point this oke came and sat down in the front, like he actually wanted to check me out. I had the temerity to play that Hugh Masekela song "Happy Mama" with all the Zulu parts. That was a bit of a fuck-up, but it's nice to play stuff you've never played before. Like my version of this classic...

Who's better, Liam or Noel?

Well, Noel is. The Gallaghers, the recently split leading lights of UK rock gods Oasis have both launched projects of their own. Singer Liam's band is called Beady Eye, and they're plainly on a bit of a Beatles pluck. For proof see their song The Roller below...

Noel, the former guitarist in Oasis and main songwriter,  calls himself Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. The track I like is a soaring masterpiece of a song called The Good Rebel. Unbelievably, it's a B-side of another song, which isn't half as good. Ultimately, though, Noel blows Liam out of the water when it comes to melodic, uplifting songmanship and musical dynamics.

Superheavy – "Miracle Worker

I just really dig this track. I'm a total Stones freak, love Junior Gong, smaak Eurythmics and I never minded Joss Stone. And those artists are all on this. Not sure who that AR Rahman oke is, but I'm going to check him out.
